Remember back to a day when the referees had style and personality and were, for all intents, an integral part of the show? From a player standpoint, you knew how certain refs were going to call the game. As a matter of fact, part of the pre-game talk was whether the refs were going to call it close or let a lot of things go. You knew when you could be more aggressive and when not to be. You knew who you wanted on the road or at home. Today, in an age of (too much) instant replay, referees have become virtual robots, too often afraid to make ANY call. The result tends to look more and more like an NBA version of Roller Derby.****
