The simple truth, the Suns ought to have made the playoffs last year. They probably would have had enough momentum going into this season to have a chance of making the playoffs again. With that kind of stability, maybe, a few free agents would take a look at the Suns. So, we need to know who made the decisions last year that turned the team sideways.

A couple of days ago, Dan Bickley in his Arizona Republic column phoned owner Robert Sarver — “off buying a soccer team in Spain” — and Sarver took full responsibility. He said the Suns lack championship culture. He said that organizational leadership is to blame, and it all starts with him.” But, he made it clear, it doesn’t end there.

“The blame is to be shared from the top down. Our leadership needs to communicate better. It needs to provide a better culture that provides for more accountability and more motivation. We have a lot of good, young players. They need to be playing hard, aggressively and on the same page whether we win or lose. That’s what I expect going forward.”

Bickley named names … sort of. He said too many people have questioned GM Sean McDonough’s honesty and that “we all feared” coach Jeff Hornacek was too nice a guy to communicate “hard truths on a daily basis.”

Okay, but what we’d really like to know is why Goran Dragic – a few months after being named an all-NBA third teamer — was sent away, why Eric Bledsoe was given such a huge contract (when few if any offers were forthcoming from elsewhere) and why Isiah Thomas was signed when the whole world knew you couldn’t possibly play three point guards and keep them happy. Those are the hard truths I’d like for someone to communicate.
