Okay, the San Antonio vein popped up – no pun intended — in the recent GM hire in Brooklyn. The Nets hired Sean Marks, ex-player and assistant GM with the San Antonio Spurs. He quickly hired as his head coach Kenny Atkinson, who was an Atlanta Hawks assistant coach under Mike Budenholzer, who had served as a long-time San Antonio assistant. Earl Watson’s one year as a Spurs’ D-league assistant probably didn’t hurt his prospects in Phoenix.
While on the subject of the Spurs, Gregg Popovich is beginning to piss me off. The press has always had a love affair with him and the San Antonio franchise but Popovich continues acting annoyed while interviewed on TV. Remember, this is the guy who, in the waning seconds of the seventh game of the 2013 final, substituted Tim Duncan. That helped enable a Miami offensive rebound, which produced Ray Allen’s championship winning 3-pointer. Any other coach does that and the press is still talking about it today.
