I don’t always agree with Charles but on this one he is spot on.

For example, 3-pointers:

“Threes are great if you have a Steph Curry, a Klay Thompson, guys like that. And these guys can live by threes … but, if you look around the NBA, everybody’s trying to go small. You have a bunch of guys shooting threes who are not good shooters.”

If I may add a thought: I’ve seen all of the great shooters and Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are the best long-range shooters — ever. You get more “bang for your buck” if those two are shooting 3s. Problem is, there are only two of them.

Back to Barkley, on parity:

“The NBA to me is the worst it’s ever been, top to bottom. We have one, two, three, four good teams and the rest of these teams stink.”

My two cents: Parity is a great word for leagues with a lot of bad teams. But what is disturbing about it is no one seems to care. There is no sense of urgency. The league, the owners, the coaches, the players – all are prosperous. Everyone is happy. Except the fans, maybe?

Barkley on a favorite subject of his, the Analytics:

“If you go back and look at the NBA for the last 30 years, you know who won? The team that had the best players.”

Me again: The number guys have almost eliminated the low-post play. Big men in the low-post are now becoming obsolete. Bringing a big man 18 to 20 feet from the basket to set a pick for a midget guard is laughable. If I was a big man in today’s NBA game I would not sign a contract without a guarantee of at least 15 touches a game.

If you want to be playing in May and June, when the court has somehow gotten smaller, you had better have some big people.
