Scotty McDonald’s 30 Defensive Rules:
Preparing for Scotty McDonald’s Defensive Rules for my blog, I found this interesting article by Zach Lowe,”Lights,Camera,Revolution”, 3- 19 -13,on Grantland’s website.   It is as he explains an analytic transformation that the NBA is undergoing and is the most important innovation in the NBA in several years. He explains that it is a “camera tracking system” known as “Sports VU” , that records every movement on the floor and spits it back at its front office keepers as a byzantine series of geometric coordinates. Who are the keepers?   Don’t laugh according to the article there are 15 teams paying  $100,000 a year and Toronto is in the forefront – Hello.  The last time I looked they finished near the bottom of the league.

This is unbelievable because as you will see in the defensive rules, we did this a long time ago and it was called “Help defense”.   They  talk about a player’s “Ghost “, when a player is in the wrong defensive position, the player’s Ghost will show where he should have been.  As you will see, Scotty’s Ghost was the Sixth Man.
Let’s briefly talk about defense.  Fans chant defense, coaches plead for stops, the TV analyst  talk about defense and players talk about the importance of defense.  So what happens?  We talk about defense but we play offense.  Why?  Because, you win awards playing defense but you make money playing offense.  Tomorrow, Rule 1 and 2.  Stay tuned.
